This week’s photo challenge of the Daily Post has the topic ‘bridge’. The first bridges that came into my mind actually were the London Bridge and the Millennium Bridge. However, I thought it would be better to mention a bridge that is not as obvious but very special as well… So the next thing that came into my mind was Cambridge and the famous Mathematical Bridge .
During my semester abroad I had the pleasure of visiting a few very nice places in England. One of the trips was to Cambridge, the country town of Cambridgeshire, England, and is seen as a university city. It is around 50 kilometres north of London and crossed by the river Cam. Hence, there are many bridges crossing the river and one of them is the Mathematical Bridge. This bridge, which is also called wooden bridge, is in the south-west of central Cambridge and bridges the River Cam to connect two parts of the Queen’s College. It was designed by William Etheridge and built by James Essex in 1749. Despite having been rebuild two times in 1866 and 1905 the bridge kept the same overall design. The unusually sophisticated engineering design appears because of the composition entirely of straight timbers.
The bridge looks really impressive, especially, thinking of the simple construction that magically holds everything together. It was a special time visiting Cambridge with lots of nice memories 🙂

This week’s photo challenge of the Daily Post has the topic ‘delta’ or more specifically something that symbolises ‘change’. As a delta is the area or low or flat land where a river flows into the sea. It changes from a river into the sea, starting a new greater journey into the unknown. Hence, for me, the horizon, the sea or the coast site always symbolise change and creativity. You never know what to expect if you would reach the horizon or what unknown creatures might surprise you on the journey through the dark sea towards the unknown. There might be always a surprise that requires you to change in order to reach your aim.
Having been at the Dutch coast in Zeeland, it was always an inspiring and fascinating place for me where I had a special time 🙂 Hence, I chose some pictures of the Dutch coast for this challenge. Furthermore, the Netherlands can be seen as a very big delta where the river Rhein flows into the North Sea.

This week’s photo challenge of the Daily Post is about expressing what ‘transient’ means to oneself. The word itself is used for something that only lasts for a short period of time or something that is temporary. Hence, it could stand for the different seasons that bring blossom in spring, falling leaves in fall or snow in winter. But it also could express the transience of the coast that vanishes with time. It could also express the short period of a humans lifetime.
As everything is transient it’s very important to cherish life and be grateful for everything we have to make it a special time for us on this planet 🙂

Here are my answers to the questions
1. What do you prefer to drink a cup of tea or a cup of coffee?
That is quite hard… I love coffee; however, I drink a lot of tea during the day. But I definitely have a cup of coffee every morning.
2. Where would you like to live?
There are many beautiful places on this planet. But so far Ireland and England have been the most magical places I’ve been to. I think it would be really nice to stay there a little longer.
3. Do you like history and what is your favourite character from the history and why?
Yes, I think history can be really interesting. Especially the English history or the history around the pharaohs in Egypt are interesting. I always was fascinated by Nefertiti and Tutankhamun.
4. Do you like music and what is your favourite music genre?
I love music! I think I couldn’t live without 😀 My favourite music genres are rock, alternative and post-hardcore. You can also have a look at the posts I wrote about some of the artists I’ve seen live 😉
5. Do you plan to go somewhere during this summer holidays and where?
Yes, I’ll probably will visit the British coast. And I’m really looking forward to it!

Yes, I did. It was a trip to Paris, France.
10. What is your horoscope sign and do you believe in horoscope?
My sign of the zodiac is Capricorn. I think it somehow relates to my personality, however, I do not believe in horoscopes. There are formulated too vague.
11. Do you have any advice for bloggers around the world (please, describe)?
I would say, just write and post whatever you like and love. If you like you posts and create them about of passion it will touch others as well. Do not doubt or quit too soon. It takes time and patience to get noticed, but you shouldn’t have a blog just to be ‘cool’ – you should start a blog for yourself and because you want to start it 😉
This week’s photo challenge of the Daily post is about ‘focus’. I think it’s a very interesting topic, especially regarding photography. It either could mean taking a picture of something in your focus or focusing on something by putting it in the front while keeping the background blurred. Focusing is very useful for close-up’s or to highlight something in a larger scenery.
As I love taking pictures of flowers, putting the focus on them very closely I obviously had to choose such pictures for this challenge 🙂 It’s always lots of fun taking those pictures and a special time 😉

This week, the topic of the Daily Post’s photo challenge is about ‘order’. ‘Order’ is quite a broad topic with many different meanings. On the one hand, ‘order’ might describe the disposition or arrangement of things and people related to each other in a specific pattern, method or sequence. On the other hand, ‘order could be an authoritative command, as well as a particular economic, political or social system. There are many more meanings and definitions for this week’s topic. However, I chose to show order as an arrangement of things in a specific pattern, method or sequence.
Especially the lovely floral compositions at the Keukenhof in the Netherlands or the accurate standing old houses surrounding a river in Antwerp in Belgium, as well as the neatly rowed wooden columns and beach houses at the beach in Zeeland are good examples to show ‘order’.
It was a special time visiting all those places and taking the pictures 🙂 So here are my examples:
Tulips at the Keukenhof, The Netherlands
Specifig order of flower arrangements – Keukenhof, The Netherlands
Specific order of wooden columns – Zeeland, The Netherlands
Cheese market with a specific arrangement of Gouda cheese – Alkmaar, The Netherlands
Neatly order of houses – Zirikzee, The Netherlands

This week’s photo challenge of The Daily Post is about ‘friends’. A friend is a person who is very close to you, who you like a lot and know very well, but is not a direct family member. Friends share their best moments together. However, they don’t have to stand right next to you to be close! They will be always by your side, no matter how far you are apart. They are there in good times and help you getting through bad times.
It is always a special time for me seeing my friends and spending time with them! And therefore, I thank them a lot and am really grateful for having them!
However, friends do not necessarily have to be human. They also can be animals or pets that you love, as well as music or other hobbies that help you through tough times and make you feel better. So here are some pictures that might symbolise ‘friends’.

This week’s photo challenge of The Daily Post – a little bit late but till not too late – is ‘evanescent’, or more precisely about something that lasts only for a short period before it disappears and is forgotten. The ‘short period’ should be seen in relation to all components. Compared to the period of the world’s experience up today, the human life only lasts a very short amount of time. However, the time raindrops, clouds, sunsets or other nature spectacles last is quite short compared to a human life (if nothing ends human life before it naturally would end). On the other hand, it takes quite some time for the cost to be reshaped by the stormy sea or to destroy resilient old monuments such as Stonehenge.
With all that mentioned, here are some examples that in my eyes could symbolise something ‘evanescent’. I think it is very important to enjoy every single day as no one knows if it might be the last one. So having a special time, travelling, listening to music, being around family and friends is always important but as everything on earth ‘evanescent’…

This week’s photo challenge of the Daily Post is about ‘heritage’, which stands for something that belongs to the culture of a specific society, such as buildings, languages or traditions that originated in the past but still have historical importance.
Travelling to different countries, I was able to visit many historical places, that offer loads of heritage. Especially the old and resilient castles in the UK reminded me of those cultural important and historic places. A very impressive castle I visited was the Caernarfon Castle in Wales.
Caernarfon CastlePolygonal towerImpressive castleLovely viewWalking between the castle walls
The castle is an in Gwynned located medieval fortress that was created by King Edward I and is one of the most impressive castles in Wales. Worthy of World Heritage status no less, especially as it is one of the UNESCO World Heritage. Picking a fight with the massive structure of such a muscle-bound and intimidating appearance would have been a daunting prospect. The massive castle wall and huge towers created a very safe place. Unlike other castles that are happy with usual round towers, Caernarfon needed polygonal towers of which the Eagle Tower was the most impressive one. In addition, the actual site wasn’t chosen by accident. In earlier times, a Roman fort stood nearby and it has been the location of a Norman motte and bailey castle. Furthermore, the easy access to the sea made the banks of the River Seiont an ideal spot for Edward’s new castle. In order to tighten his grip further on the native population, the birth of his son and the first English Prince of Wales in the castle in 1284 was a perfect device to stamp his supremacy. The place of Edwards son was taken by Prince Charles in 1969, who is the current Prince of Wales.

With all that knowledge, it is an amazing feeling standing on such ancient ground that is also highly important for the Great British history. It was a special time visiting the resilient castle, imagining how the people of the earlier times might have lived there!
Last week I went to another really great concert in Cologne. Flight Brigade, a British indie rock band, played a lovely show in the Blue Shell.
Flight Brigade is more than a band, it’s a family and that is where the chemistry between them comes from. Especially their performance and music dhows the special bond they share. Musically their sound is a mix of grand orchestral sweeps and crunching anthemic guitars. According to the striking mix of male and female Flight Brigade were compared to bands such as Arcade Fire or Of Monsters and Men, other pop bands who refused to compromise their size for the sake of their sound.
The bands members are a real family. Oliver Baines (guitar, vocals) is married to Miriam Baines who is the sister of Dorry Macaulay (vocals, violin). Thomas Pink (guitar), Neil Blandford (drums), Tom Clay (bass) and Jonny Baker (keys) were friends since their childhood and lived nearby. In 2015 Flight Brigade performed at many different festivals in the UK and released their EP “Stealing Fire” (self-released). End of 2016 they finally finished their first full-length album “Our Friends Our Enemies” which was released via Rebel Cinema Records. Flight Brigade want to create music they love, about topics that are moving and emotional. Especially their mix between hard rough guitar sounds and the classical fragile violin is very atmospheric and creates a great ambience. Every song sounds different and creates a unique vibe.

Epic 😀
Their music was perfect for the venue. It kind of felt as if the music was crawling from the stage and wrapping around every person in the room. The lighting was kept very simple which was absolutely perfect. I think this kind of music need the space to speak for itself. The people also seemed to relay enjoy it as they sung and clapped or danced along. Unfortunately, there haven’t been that many people but those who have been there seemed to have connected with the music.
So it was definitely a special time with great music and a lovely down to earth bad who absolutely appreciated people supporting them!
For their show Flight brigade have brought Rews, an alternative rock band from London, with them who opened the show. Unfortunately, as there was loads of traffic I haven’t seen their set which was a pity. They are a female rock-duo, consisting of Shauna Tohill (vocals, guitar) and Collette Williams (vocals, drums), who have founded the band in 2015. Musically, they sound very energetic mixing drums, electric guitars with some synthesizer sounds in the back which worked very well live.
The concert took place in the Blue Shell, which is a very small scene club in Cologne fitting around 200 people. They do not only have live concerts, but also poetry, actors, parties and much more. However, at the evening I went there for the Flight Brigade concert, the club was not full. It was actually a really great and intense atmosphere and ambience as I kind of had the feeling all the people connected with the music and the band, having an amazing time. The acoustic was also not too bad. Unfortunately, very often, concerts in such small clubs have a bad acoustic sounding extremely chaotic. But that wasn’t the case for Rews or Flight Brigade.
Amazing vibes
