This week’s photo challenge of the Daily Post was about ‘reflecting’. Reflections can be really impressive especially thinking of massive mountains being reflected by the mirror like surface of a very calm lake. Other very interesting reflections might occur through puddles only reflecting a little spot of their surroundings. However, as I already showed some lovely reflections within nature, I thought I might choose something quite different this time 😀
People tent to walking through the streets without holding their heads up high and recognizing what is surrounding them or what beautiful things might be above their heads. As I walked through the financial business district in London, I came across some amazing reflections of the buildings surrounding me. It was definitely a special time walking through different streets such as 30 St Mary Axe or the Leadenhall Street and exploring some lovely spots.

This week’s photo challenge of the Daily Post was about ‘danger’ or more precisely something that symbolises or expresses danger. There are many ways of showing danger is on the way. In some cultures, as well as in nature, the vivid colour red can symbolise danger, animals could have sharp teeth or horns symbolising they are dangerous, an extreme sportsman flying with only a parachute is highly in danger, or just the dark clouds coming closer and bringing the danger of heavy rain.
With all those different aspects, here is my small selection of what symbolises danger for me in different situations. It was always a special time taking those pictures at very magical and atmospheric places.

A week ago I went to another really great concert. The British indie-rock band Circa Waves came to the MTC in Cologne and it was amazing!
The band was founded in 2013 by Kieran Shudall (vocals, guitar), Sam Rourke (bass), Colin Jones (drums) and Joe Falconer (lead guitar) after they met each other at the Liverpool Sound City. In the same year, they played a few shows within the UK and released their debut single ‘Get Away/Good For Me” via Transgressive Records. In 2014, they released their ‘Young Chasers EP’ via Virgin Records in the USA and toured with bands such as The 1975 or The Libertines throughout the UK and played several European, as well as international Festivals such as Glastonbury, Hurricane and Southside, Reading and Leeds Festival, or the T-in the park. Their Debut album ‘Young Chasers’ was finally released in mid-2015. Afterwards, the band toured again in the UK and played more festivals before they announced they would release a second album. ‘Different Creatures’ were released in spring 2017. Musically, Circa Waves have very raw sounding rock songs which let them sound really authentic. Their music brings loads of energy and vividness with it, which is absolutely made for being played live on stage in a small pub-ish club.

The MTC in Cologne, where I have been before to see Slaves (US), was a fitting venue for that kind of music. But before Circa Waves entered the stage, Inheaven opened the stage. Inheaven is a British alternative indie-rock band from South London and consists of James Taylor (vocals, guitar), Chloe Little (vocals, bass), Joe Lazarus (drums) and Jake Lukas (guitar). Being signed to Epic records, the band has released four EP’s so far, which are ‘Regeneration’ (2015), ‘Bitter Town’ (2015), ‘Baby’s Alright’ (2016), and ‘Treats’ (2016), as well as some Singles. Musically, the songs sound rebellious and energetic. Cloe and James both sing the songs.

When Inheaven entered the stage the club was still not that crowded. Nevertheless, everyone seemed to enjoy their music and danced, jumped or clapped along. They entertained the crowd and had a blast on stage themselves. Unfortunately, the acoustic in the club was not on point and the whole sound was a little bit too noisy, chaotic and mixed up.
After a short sound check, Circa Waves entered the stage and with the first guitar riff, the whole crowd started jumping, moshing, singing dancing and just had an amazing time. The acoustic was also a little better than before but still not great in my opinion. However, that didn’t lessen the great atmosphere at all. The lights for both shows have been kept quite dark and simple which was absolutely fitting and supporting the music. As it was the last show of the tour they seemed to try getting the best experience they can get for the last show as well as offer the crowd an amazing performance. Everyone had loads of fun and it was a special time for sure. In the end, the band invited not only

In the end, the band invited not only Inheaven on stage with them but also the crowd in front of the stage to finish with a great ‘Goodbye’ and magical vibes.

This week’s photo challenge of The Daily Post is about ‘wanderlust’. The term itself originated in Germany and describes a person’s need of just going outside and starting to walk along a path or travel the world. It is also the opposite word of being homesick. Since 1902 the word was adapted to the English language as well as it is used in Italy, Denmark and Ireland.
For me, there are many different symbols that stand for ‘wanderlust’ such as birds, a compass, wind, arrows, a plane and loads of other symbols. However, every time I look through older pictures of my travels the feeling of ‘itchy feet’ or the want to go outside and explore the world arise in me. Every destination of my travel path so far and all the different places were a special time in my life and I hope there are many more destinations to come 🙂

As today the world celebrates the Earth Day, I thought it would be perfectly suitable to participate in this week’s photo challenge of the Daily Post which has the topic ‘earth’.
The Earth is one of seven planets in our solar system and the third planet from the sun. It is the only planet in the universe known to harbour life and has the highest dense of the planets in the solar system as well as it is the largest of the terrestrial planets. The diameter of the Earth is around 12,700km and the planet has an estimated age of 4.6 Billion years. On its way around the sun, the Earth rotates around its axis over 365 times which also is the length of one year on Earth. Its surface consists of 71% of water, that’s why the planet looks very blue from out of the space. The other 29% consist of several rigid tectonic plates which build the continents and islands.
According to religious and biological theories, there are different myths on how the Earth, as well as its inhabitants, were created. However, it is stated that billions of years ago the first life on earth appeared in the oceans and began to affect both the Earth’s surface and atmosphere, by creating anaerobic and aerobic organisms during an evolution. Up to date, there is no certain number of how many different species of organisms live or have lived on Earth. However, the most influential species living on the planet are the humans. Currently, there are somewhat 2.5 Billion humans living on Earth and the number is steadily increasing.
The World Earth Day arose from a student movement in Washington (USA) around 1970. Since then, the 22nd of April has been a worldwide common day for creating awareness of the planet and its problems such as pollution, climate, the growth of population and other important topics.
I think it is very important to appreciate the beauty of our planet and to take care of it as good as possible. If we just look away and stop caring we’ll destroy the beautiful nature and landscapes as well as the animals living in those environments. There are so many magical and amazing places on Earth that enable us having a special time there and enjoy our life to the fullest. In return, we should cherish those availabilities and try to keep them safe. Only a stable and balanced environment will give us the chance to stay and live on a pretty and lovely planet.
So to celebrate our planet and its many facets here are some impressions of the beauty of our home 😉

This week’s photo challenge of The Daily Post has the topic ‘surprise’. A surprise is something happening not expected at all or something that is not predictable.
So as I just recently went to the beautiful Dutch coast during the Easter break, I surprisingly got to see an amazing, magical sunset at the North Sea coast, despite bad weather prediction. The colours were amazing and it was one of the most beautiful sunsets there 🙂 It’s always a special time being there, especially with such a lovely end of the day!

The Word Alive is an in 2008 founded Post-hardcore band from Phoenix, Arizona (USA). The current members of the band are Tyler ‘Telle’ Smith (vocals), Zack Hansen (lead guitar), Toni Pizzuti (rhythm guitar), Daniel Shapiro (bass, keys) and Matt Horn (drums). Their musical style is a great mix between hard screamed vocals and very melodic clean vocals, that are colourfully underlined with heavy and dark sounding guitars. However, not every song contains a breakdown and heavy sounds. The band shows a balanced mix of lighter singalong songs and heavy metal tunes. The overall vibe of the music is quite melancholic and dark sending the listener into another world.
In 2009 the band got signed to Fearless Records and released their EP ‘Empire’ that reached No. 15 on the Billboard Heatseeker Charts and toured with bands such as Silverstein. After touring the band started recording their debut Album ‘Deceiver’ which was released later in 2010 (Fearless Records) and charted on No. 97 of the Billboard 200 Charts. With their debut album, the band wanted to show their facets of being a metal band but also having a beautiful and melodic side. In 2012 The Word Alive recorded and released their second full-length album ‘Life Cycles’ (Fearless Records) and supported bands such as Sleeping With Sirens and Parkway Drive. After playing different festivals and touring, they started writing their third album ‘Real.’ in 2013, which finally was released in 2014 via Fearless Records. Focussing on the right balance between heavy and also showing their beautiful melodic side the album is seen as their most personal one. After the release, they went on a headlining tour and played at different festivals. Their latest full-length album ‘Dark Matter’ (Fearless Records) was released in 2016 and came along with a headlining tour in North America in that year.

I really love their mix of heavy guitars, melodic clean vocals parted with screamed parts, which create a melancholic atmosphere. Hence, as I saw they come on tour in Europe I took the chance and went to one of the concerts which was at the LUXOR in Cologne. Together with Carcer City they were supporting Attila.
The first band of the evening was the British Metalcore band Carcer City from Liverpool. So far Patch (vocals), Lewy (guitar, vocals), Yacka (guitar), Ollie (bass) and Karl (drums), of whom the band consists of, released their EP ‘Affliction’ (2009) and their debut album ‘The Life We Have Chosen’ (2009) in the same year, as well as ‘The Road Journals’ (2012) and their latest Album ‘Infinite//Unknown’ (2016) via Stay Sick Recordings. Musically, their style is a mix between melancholic sang vocals and hard screamed parts, coloured with heavy guitars and breakdowns. As soon as they entered the stage they brought a lot of energy with them and animated the crowd to move along. As the audience in Cologne in general seems to be quite hard to get moving at the beginning (I have to admit I’m also someone who always needs a bit longer to get moving myself 😀 – sorry), it took a few invitations of the singer. However, with the energy on stage, it didn’t take long. The crowd waved their hands built the first circle pits and the band seemed to have a blast on stage. With their music, they created a melancholic but at the same time energetic atmosphere which was supported by the simple lighting and raw sound. I really enjoyed their music and show, so it was really sad that they didn’t have that much time on stage.

However, after a short sound check, The Word Alive entered the stage and brought all of their energy with them. The crowd, who was now already warmed up, had loads of fun clapping along, running in circle pits jumping and singing along. It was an amazing show with a nice ambience, great vibes and loads of energy. The Word Alive seemed to have a blast on stage and wanted the audience to get the best experience possible. The sound and musical performance were great as well. The songs were energetic but at the same time brought some melancholic vibes with them, which created a magical experience. Everything was positively supported with the simple light show and the good acoustic. The Word alive played a mix of their newest album ‘Dark Matter’ and some of their older songs. They also played a completely new song ‘Misery’ and ended their set with ‘Trapped’.

After another quick sound check, the final band of the evening were about to enter the stage. Attila is a metal-, death- and rapcore band from Atlanta, Georgia (USA) who was founded in 2005 by Chris Fronzak (singer). The current members are Christopher (Chris/’Fronzilla’) Fronzak (vocals), Christopher (Chris) Linck (guitar), Kalan Adam Blehm (bass) and Bryan McClure (drums). Before the band got signed to Artery Recordings in 2010 and released their debut album ‘Rage’, they self-released ‘Fallacy’ in 2007 and ‘Sountrack To A Party’ (Static Factory) in 2009. After touring with bands such as From First To Last, Sleeping With Sirens, Memphis May Fire and other bigger bands, they released their fourth album ‘Outlawed’ (Artery Recordings and Razor & Tie) in 2011. Until 2013 they again toured a lot and had a headlining tour at the end of 2012. ‘About That Life’, the band’s fifth studio album, was released in 2013 and followed by a bigger headlining tour, supports in Europe, as well as some festivals. With their sixth full-length album ‘Guilty Pleasure’ (2014), Attila was trying to get an even heavier sound than they wanted to have on their previous albums. After Attila were signed to Sharp Tone Records they released their latest studio album ‘Chaos’ in 2016.

The crowd really seemed to like the show and overall performance. There was a lot of crowd surfing, chaotically jumping, singing along and dense mosh pits. Towards the end of the show singer Fronzilla asked for some volunteers who would join him on stage to perform one song with the band. He chose two guys who had to battle against each other so the crowd could decide who was the winner. A lucky very metal-ish looking guy was the lucky winner and had a blast on stage. The crowd was happy and energetic as well. As I haven’t heard a lot about the band before I didn’t really know what to expect as I only wanted to go to the concert because of The Word Alive, I was a little surprised about the very energetic and wild performance. Not only the band but also the audience seemed to have an amazing time and went mental. I personally, didn’t enjoy them as much as I did enjoy The Word Alive and Carcer City, but that doesn’t mean that their performance was not good! Their fans were totally satisfied and I enjoyed the whole concert experience as well and had a special time!
The venue was again the LUXOR in cologne which I think is always doing a great job. I absolutely love the atmosphere in such small concert venues as everything seems to be very familiar and cosy – not as far away and impersonal as at huge arenas. The acoustic was good as well, however this time I thought it was quite loud, though. The acoustic in general was quite clear and the instruments did not end mixed up in one chaotic collection of noises.
It was definitely a great evening that I enjoyed a lot 🙂
The topic for this week’s photo challenge of The Daily Post is ‘security’, which actually is quite a big and broad topic. In ‘Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs’ safety is the next step after psychological needs in the Pyramid and hence still belongs to the basic needs of an individual. Feeling secure is more a psychological need. However, safety needs may differ for each individual, depending on their state or situation in life. Hence, safety could mean to have a cosy home, a loving and stable family with love and warmth, but it also could be economic security such as a stable job or living without wars, fear and anxiety which may have an impact on a person’s social life. Furthermore, security could be more physical as for example guards protecting their country, police officers, fences and walls, or different kinds of locks. Without fulfilling their basic needs of security and other psychological needs individuals can’t get into the next stage of Maslow’s pyramid and reach their self-fulfilment needs.
In my opinion, safety is a very important circumstance and can be found in every stage of an individual’s state in life! Feeling secure, loved and being surrounded with family, friends and a secure home always brings around a special time in life 🙂

This week’s photo challenge of the Daily Post has the topic ‘dense’. Dense can describe a substance or arrangement of something that has parts which are very close together leading to the difficulty to see or go through. Hence, there are many ways to show something ‘dense’. Another word describing the condition would be thick.
Choosing a small variety to vary the condition ‘dense’, I thought of a big amount of water drops rushing down a pale rock, a huge crowd of people standing very close to each other watching a concert, a dense amount of clouds crawling over a mountain or a dense amount of grass nearly hiding a resilient and ancient tumulus. Especially the dense condition of people at a festival or huge natural arrangements shaping the landscape can create very magical vibes and gave me a special time taking all the pictures.

A few days ago I went to Cologne to go to the Deaf Havana concert 🙂 I saw them before in Coventry and I absolutely enjoyed their music… So after I heard they will go on tour again I directly got the tickets and it was definitely worth it – the concert was absolutely amazing and I really had a special time.
The concert which took place at the LUXOR in Cologne was completely sold out. Around 500 people fit in the small scene club which is known for hosting rock, alternative, indie and pop concerts, as well as electronic dance music events.
Deaf Havana is a British alternative rock band from Hunstanton, Norfolk (UK) and was founded in 2005. The current members consist of three of the founders who are James Veck-Gilodi (vocals, rhythm guitar), Lee Wilson (bass) and Tom Ogden (drums, percussion), as well as James’s brother Matthew Veck-Gilodi (lead guitar) and Max Britton (keys, piano, acoustic guitar, percussions). After they wrote a few songs and a demo called ‘White Lines But No Camera’ in 2006, they toured and started writing songs for their debut EP ‘Evangeline’. In 2007, they started writing more songs which were released on their debut EP ‘It’s Called The Easy Life’ after they got signed to Wolf at Your Door Records in 2008. Straight on in 2009, the band released their debut studio album ‘Meet Me Halfway, At Least’ also via Wolf at Your Door Records. Afterwards, the band started touring during 2010 and played some festivals. In 2011, Deaf Havana released their second full-length studio album ‘Fools and Worthless Liars’ (via BMG) which peaked at number one on the UK Rock Album Charts and was re-released as deluxe version with additional re-recorded versions of the songs. After more shows and touring with bands such as Architects and You Me At Six, they began composing new songs for their third full-length studio album in 2012 which was called ‘Old Sols’ (via BMG) and finally released in 2014 as deluxe version which featured a documentary of the band’s history. After their big UK and US tour during 2014, it became a little bit more quiet around the band. However, at the end of 2014/beginning of 2015 Deaf Havana toured again in the UK and pre-released a new single ‘Cassiopeia’. Furthermore, they announced that they will work on a new studio album which finally was released in 2017 via So Records and is called ‘All These Countless Nights’. After the band’s appearance at the Leed’s and Reading Festivals, they announced another UK tour in over two years. They also announced tour dates all over Europe and had their first show out of the UK on the 22nd of March at the LUXOR in Cologne!
Before I have attended one of their shows in Coventry in 2014, unfortunately, I haven’t heard a lot of their songs before. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the ones I knew and wanted to go to the small concert and it was really amazing! Hence, as I heard of their Europe tour in 2017 I knew that I definitely would go to another of their concerts and it was again absolutely amazing!
As supporting act they had the English alternative rock trio Dinosaur Pile-Up that was founded in 2007 in Leeds and recently consists of Matt Bigland (vocals, guitar), Mike Sheils (drums) and Jim Cratchley (bass). Deaf Havana themselves really enjoy Dinosaur Pile-Up’s music and watched the gig from the back of the stage. James Veck-Gilodi even wore their band shirt and told how much they enjoy them musically but also a people. I really could hear Dinosaur Pile-Up’s musical influences of Nirvana and Foo Fighters during the concert. Further influences are bands such as Weezer, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Beatles, Slayer or Deftones. It is not surprising that they are very often compared with the grunge scene of the early 90’s. Even the style and look of the band members, especially the singer Matt remind of the grunge band Nirvana.
So far they released the EP’s called ‘My Rock’n’Roll EP’ (2008), ‘Traynor 7”’ (2009) and ‘The Most Powerful EP In The World’ (2009), as well as three full-length studio albums which are ‘Growing Pains’ (2010, recorded by Matt Bigland), ‘Nature Nature’ (2013, So Recordings) and ‘Eleven Eleven’ (2015, So Recordings).
With their grunge-ish attitude, they caught the attention of the crowd right at the beginning as well as the members of Deaf Havana who were watching the show right from the back of the stage. However, it kind of seemed as if the crowd showed their very critical side as they were not as impressed and wild as it would have been expected regarding the great performance of the band who showed once more how there can be a rich sound with only three members. Unfortunately, Cologne is known for having quite reserved and hard to catch concert attendees which seemed to be the case at the LUXOR that evening. The venue and quite raw light show suited perfectly and created a great and edgy vibe. However, unfortunately, the acoustic was not on the point (in my opinion). The instruments were extremely loud compared to the mics and seemed to fuse into one big mess. Nevertheless, the band itself did a really great show and seemed to enjoy their time on the stage and it was great watching their show.

After Dinosour Pile-Up finished their set and the stage had been prepared for the main act of the evening, Deaf Havana finally entered the stage and started with one of their latest singles ‘Sing’. Compared to their show in Coventry, they were even more energetic and seemed to have a blast on stage! It’s a pity that the crowd wasn’t as energetic moshing around just as the British crowd did. But that’s maybe the Cologne mentality 😉 However, the people were singing along, jumping and clapping their hands which showed that they really enjoyed the show.

Especially, Matthew’s spectacular moves and twirling around showed their fun, joy and energy as well as how much they got ‘lost’ in their music. All of the members seemed to have a blast on stage and really appreciated the fans coming to their shows which they mentioned over and over again. I think that makes them even more human and sympathic as they know how hard the music business can be and that it is not obviously to have such a huge success. Unfortunately, many people seem to take their success for granted and forget appreciating it.

The acoustic for Deaf Havana’s performance improved a lot compared to the first band of the evening. All the different instruments as well as the vocals were clearly mixed and created a harmonic, not chaotic-seeming sound. The volume of the vocals got along with the overall volume. Furthermore, the light show was kept simple and raw which suited the venue and overall performance perfectly. The atmosphere and ambience during both shows were amazing, energetic and quite magical. I kind of felt wrapped into the music and had a special time being there 🙂
I already knew that I would enjoy the concert as I have seen them live before, however, they got even better since then and the concert in Cologne was absolutely amazing and made me shiver (in a positive way of course). Only the crowd was not as energetic as I expected it to be.
